What about henge and amnoon? And even yaks for that matter.
According to the following thread, the only two missions that have to be done to get to these locations is: 1) Kryta Gate, to get to Lion's Arch; and 2) Sanctum Cay, to get to the desert...

And now how will they get refund points?
I agree. This update is a step in the right direction and it shows that the devs are willing to work to make the game better, but the only thing the new PVP reward system will do in it's current state is give players an alternate path to grind on.

I don't think I'm alone in saying that I thought this was a patch for people who didn't want to grind. Instead it still caters to players who like to grind, but now they can choose between killing monsters for hours or killing players for hours. People who disliked having to spend hours upon hours playing in order to be competetive in PvP are still going to have to spend hours upon hours playing in order to be competetive in PvP. The game still punishes players who can't commit a lot of time to playing.

Technically, no one is being punished. You get access to a huge amount of skills via the templates, plus you can unlock the starting skills in like 3 minutes or even less if you can switch 2nd class already. I myself have made a pretty good monk build using the Boon Healer + 1 other starter skill.

I think the only way to Lion's Arch is Kryta Gate.

Nope. After reaching Scoundrel's Rise from the Shiverpeaks, head west and you'll zone to North Kryta Province. From there, head south and bam, Lion's Arch.

Well...you could go through Scoundrel's Rise into Northern Kryta Province and then head south from there. Don't know how much easier it would be compared to going through Gates of Kryta, though.

How is being forced to use the templates not punishment? Sure you can unlock a few skills quickly with a PvE char, but you can't honestly think that "template chars + a few starter skills" = competetive PvP characters.

Unlock most Skills and some Runes in PvE, unlock some Skills Weapon Upgrades & some runes in PvP.

you also have to factor in the time it takes to unlock some elites in PvE. it may be easier to unlock skills in PvE and earn skill points in PvE faster than getting 1000/3000 skill points, but some elites are pains to unlock. with runes, it may be easier to buy unid minor/major runes then unlock them with faction. the point of the update is that it gives PvP players OPTIONS to how they unlock things. the best thing to unlock in pvp is HANDS DOWN weapon upgrades & runes because otherwise the only other way to unlock them is by random chance in PvE play or by buying unid items off players, which is expensive and still semi-random. i <3 the new update.

Well presumably they want you to have played the RP part first. You only need one RP character (sucks if ya deleted it) but your one RP character can unlock skills for any class. How can you PvP without doing the RP at least once anyway?

And of course it's just another grind, what did you expect? If you like PvP you can now unlock skills by... PvPing! If you like PvE you can now unlock skills by... you guessed it... PvEing! I don't think enough time has really gone by for any reasonable complaints to be made.

Let's also say you don't have a character of that class that is at Dragon's Lair. How long would you say it would take to bring a fresh character up to Dragon's Lair? A few DAYS at least, if you took normal human breaks. Now compare that to the PvP rewards, where you can unlock an elite, let's say with 30 minute GvG battles, MINIMAL of 7.5 hours if you win every match. Let's say your record tends to be around .500. Thats 15 hours. Not including kills, which would be an additional 16 points per battle. Long? Yes, but it's far less what the PvE players went/or will go through. And that's also assuming your at the bottom of the GvG ladder, which I assume most people who are seriously trying to unlock skills with PvP aren't.

The only reason you think PvE players have an advantage is because most of them that PvP have already brought numerous characters up through the game. They just invested time before the patch, and now they get the rewards from that time. If PvP rewards had been released from the start, then it would be anything BUT in favor of PvE players. In a few weeks when all the PvP players have their skills. There will have been no advantage.

uhh, any level 20 ascended character can unlock ANY skill because they can change secondary professions.

also, why do you care what weapon mods/runes/skills pvpers unlock for their PVP characters if you only PvE?? is it because they will be able to get more gold faster than you? wait, no they can't because ALL of the pvp players will have the same total equipment, so they'll earn money at the same rate. what does it matter what pvp characters have in the way of unlocking skills. PvE only people dont even NEED skill unlocks, because that's a PvP only thing. what we're complaining about is that PvP is still way unbalanced as far as speed to unlock skills in pve. mass skills in pvp are much more important to have than in pve because you change builds much more often in pvp than pve.

oh wait... i can't buy anything with it? Wtf? The gave me a treat, only to taunt me?
that was really frustrating.

Getting skills through random arena PvP isn't that hard...

Tonight, post-patch, I played a couple hours of PvP in the random arena (this included an 11-game winning streak that spilled over into the team arena ), and after the said amount of time, I had 378 faction thingies. That means that in three days (if I play a couple hours a night), I can unlock some non-elite skills/weapon mods/minor runes/etc.

And this is coming from experience playing, NOT experience whining

I bet we're still going to get whining from the PvP only players. They made it so you have to atleast complete the game to Droknar's forge in PvE with one character, because all the Balthazar priests are spread out in the game, all the elites being in Droknar's. Not just that but if you unlock an upgrade in PvE you can automatically get the next level. Example:
I unlocked a 4:1 vampiric axe haft awhile back so now instead of having to unlock 1:1 2:1 3:1 and 4:1 to get 5:1 my next upgrade will be just a straight 5:1.

So obviously they set it up so not to seperate the PvE and PvP it's just not as bad as spending 150+ hours 3 times to unlock all the skills in PvE, Now you can spend 50 hours once in PvE then just PvP.

I think it's nice. And it's not hard to get faction points. I played for 10 minutes in the competition arena and got 24. It might take awhile but between my own PvPing and GvG battles it shouldn't be hard to save for the Superior Vigor (I've already unlocked a major previously.

EDIT: Something else I like is the fact I can still delete a PvP-Only character and make a new one to fill a spot in GvG. A favorite tactic of mine. Example: If we need a mesmer I would delete my warrior PvP only and make a mesmer.

Know what sucks most about this, The update is nice but having to play through PvE up to draknors to unlock anything defeats alot of the purpose.

What sucks even more is I deleated my PvE Toons last weak (That includes all the gold ect tied to them) So paying someone to rush me through is hardly an Option

Here is my take on this update

The numbers are out of whack by at least a factor of 16.

Faction nice, idea, wrong numbers. Also when they changed ascension the changes had retro-active rewards. So this is what I want for now:

1) Fix the rewards by a factor of 16 or more.
2) Make a model of how many kills were involved to win each fame point and retroactively reward faction for all the fame we have earned. That doesn't mean destroy your fame - we need that as a record of accomplishment like level in PvE, just add the faction too.

The patch notes last week mentioned several weeks of PvP updates so I just hope they fix it soon. Please.

This update is horrible for the casual guy who doesn't have an awesome group that can go into tombs and get to/hold the hall for many rounds at a time. Extremely slow net gain there and arena is no better. GvG promotion is good but of course you have to have flexible character setup and mods/runes for gvg so that's kind of pointless... Anet didn't hold up that end

I'm sorry, that's incorrect.

Before this patch, you had to play through the game THREE times to be able to collect every single skill available.

Now, you only have to go through once. By playing your PVP character, you can use that one, solitary RP character that has access to all those towns to unlock ALL skills from ALL professions. You only need that RP character to make it to other towns, and you only have to play through the game once to do it.

For those that are complaining about the update already as far as how much faction points you get, how about giving it more than a few hours? Skill doesn't mean everything's handed to you on a silver platter.

No offense, but that's not exactly Anet's problem, now is it?
